Toyota Fielder (2013 onwards) maintenance schedule for Kenyan roads
Administrator
The Fielder is one of the most common cars on Kenyan roads, and most imported since 2013 have the 1.5 litre petrol engine (1NZ-FE), a hybrid version, or the 1.8 litre (2ZR). All use a timing chain and, from 2012, a CVT gearbox. Here is a schedule that suits local conditions. Your owner's manual is the final word.
Every 5,000 km (dusty or murram roads, heavy traffic) or 10,000 km (mostly highway)
- Engine oil and filter. The manual usually specifies 0W-20 or 5W-30; the grade is printed on the oil filler cap of many models.
- Check and clean the air filter; replace it if it's dark or clogged.
- Check tyre pressures, brake pad thickness, wipers and all lights.
Every 20,000 km
- Replace the air filter and cabin (AC) filter.
- Rotate the tyres and check wheel alignment, especially after potholes.
- Inspect suspension bushes and stabiliser links, which wear quickly on rough roads.
Every 40,000 km or 2 years
- CVT fluid: use Toyota CVT Fluid FE or an exact equivalent. Ordinary ATF damages the CVT.
- Brake fluid (it absorbs moisture over time, whatever the mileage).
- Check coolant level and condition.
Every 100,000 km
- Iridium spark plugs.
- Coolant replacement if it hasn't been done.
Hybrid owners: keep the battery cooling vent near the rear seat free of dust and clutter. See our hybrid battery guide.
Record every service in CarLog so you get reminders and a buyer can see the full history when you sell.
