Toyota Harrier (2013 onwards): CVT, turbo and hybrid care
Administrator
Harriers imported to Kenya come in three main types. Check which you have, because their care differs:
- 2.0 litre petrol with a CVT, the most common.
- 2.0 litre turbo petrol with a six-speed automatic (from 2017).
- Hybrid, with electric motors and a hybrid battery.
All versions
- Engine oil and filter every 5,000–10,000 km depending on your driving, with the grade in your manual.
- Air filter and cabin filter at every 20,000 km, or sooner on dusty roads.
- Brake fluid every 2 years.
- Tyres: the Harrier is heavy, so keep the pressures right and rotate every 10,000 km.
CVT models
- CVT fluid about every 40,000 km with the correct Toyota CVT fluid.
- Smooth acceleration helps the CVT last.
Turbo models
- Don't stretch oil changes; the turbo depends on clean oil.
- After a hard drive, let the engine idle briefly before switching off.
- Automatic gearbox fluid at the interval in your manual.
Hybrid models
- Keep the hybrid battery's cooling air intake clear and have its filter cleaned regularly (see our hybrid battery guide).
- Use a garage with a hybrid-capable scan tool.
- Some hybrids are four-wheel drive (E-Four), with an electric motor at the rear; keep all four tyres matched.
