Toyota Probox and Succeed: keeping a working vehicle on the road
Administrator
Proboxes earn their keep carrying heavy loads, long hours and rough roads. That counts as severe service, so use the shorter intervals in the manual, not the normal ones.
What to do and when
- Engine oil and filter every 5,000 km. Short trips, idling in traffic and full loads all break oil down faster.
- Air filter: check at every oil change and replace when dirty. Dust is the biggest cause of early engine wear upcountry.
- Rear leaf springs and shock absorbers: inspect every 10,000 km if you regularly carry heavy loads. Sagging springs affect braking and tyre wear.
- Tyres: inflate to the "full load" pressure on the door-pillar sticker when loaded. Under-inflated tyres overheat and fail.
- Brakes: a loaded Probox works its brakes hard. Check pads and drums every 10,000 km.
- CVT fluid (CVT models) every 40,000 km with the correct Toyota CVT fluid.
Don't overload
The maximum load is on the plate in the door frame and in the manual. Overloading wears out springs, wheel bearings, brakes and the gearbox far faster than any other habit.
Fleet managers: add every Probox to CarLog with its driver's mileage readings, and you'll see which vehicles cost the most to keep running.
