Honda Fit: CVT and hybrid gearbox care
Administrator
Most Honda Fits in Kenya (2013 onwards) are either the 1.3/1.5 litre petrol with a CVT, or the Fit Hybrid with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox (i-DCD). Both are economical, but their gearboxes need different care.
Petrol Fit with CVT
- Engine oil every 5,000 km in town, with the grade in the manual (often 0W-20).
- CVT fluid every 40,000 km with Honda's own CVT fluid. Other fluids can cause judder.
Fit Hybrid (i-DCD)
- Some jerking at very low speed and when creeping in traffic is a known trait. Honda released software updates for these gearboxes; ask a Honda specialist to check yours has them.
- Have the dual-clutch gearbox oil changed at the manual's interval.
- Keep the hybrid battery cooling vent, under the rear seat area, clear and clean.
- Use a garage with a Honda-capable scan tool for hybrid faults.
Both versions
- Air filter and cabin filter every 20,000 km.
- Check the 12 V battery; a weak one causes strange warning lights on hybrids.
- Brake fluid every 2 years.
